I wanted to share the exciting news regarding David Emmanuel Goatley, former lead of Lott Carey, Past President of the North American Baptist Fellowship, an eminent leader in the Baptist World Alliance and a founding member of the Scholars Collaboration within the NABF. He has been named President of Fuller Seminary (see details below). What a delight, greatly to be celebrated.

Fuller Seminary Names David Emmanuel Goatley as Sixth President
Fuller Seminary is thrilled to announce that David Emmanuel Goatley, an accomplished theologian, missiologist, and academic administrator, has been named as Fuller’s sixth president. On January 3, 2023, Dr. Goatley will become Fuller’s first Black president and the first to have led a major global missions agency. He will succeed Mark Labberton, who announced this planned transition in October 2021.
The Board of Trustees unanimously selected Goatley from a considerable pool of highly qualified candidates, with enthusiastic confidence in his ability to lead the seminary into the future based on his impressive career that uniquely reflects Fuller’s values and major fields of study, as well as his proven ability to execute strategic plans as a leader in both higher education and other organizations. He currently serves as the associate dean for academic and vocational formation, Ruth W. and A. Morris Williams Jr. Research Professor of Theology and Christian Ministry, and director of the Office of Black Church Studies at Duke Divinity School.
“The confluence of David Goatley’s professional expertise in the fields of theology, psychology and missiology, together with his experience as an academic dean at a premier university, make him a remarkable match for Fuller Seminary at this pivotal moment in its history,” said Fuller Board of Trustees Chair Dan Meyer. “He will be a superb and groundbreaking leader of our vision to provide indispensable, formational education for Christian leaders everywhere.”
Outgoing President Mark Labberton agreed. “God is so good to bring David Goatley to Fuller Seminary,” he said. “Fuller will benefit greatly from Dr. Goatley’s heart for Jesus Christ, his long-term service of God’s church in the US and across the globe, and his dedication to theological and psychological education. As Fuller’s first Black president, David will add further dimensions of experience and insight as he leads our multiethnic life and mission. I will seek to do all I can to make this a strong and smooth transition as I complete my decade of leadership.”
