Theme & Speaker
The theme for this year’s meeting is Building Lasting Bridges. In our increasingly divided culture, it is easy to think of groups or individuals with whom it’s hard to imagine finding unity in Christ. This year we are excited to offer an extended presentation and workshop with Rev. Katie Choy-Wong to share from her depth experience on the theological importance of supporting diversity, and to reflect on what this biblical imperative might mean for each of us within our contexts.
This workshop is designed for people, leaders and churches who desire to embark on a journey toward having authentic relationships with others who are culturally different. The workshop will focus on discovering one’s own cultural perspectives, learning about others, and building a ‘toolbox’ for intercultural relationships.
Rev. Choy-Wong is a passionate, warm and engaging speaker. She has spent a lifetime sharing the gospel, serving as a denominational leader with the ABC-USA, and as a church pastor. Rev. Choy-Wong’s passion for churches, missions and social justice is evidenced in her leadership with the Alliance of Asian American Baptist Churches, her extensive work in Intercultural Ministries, and her directorship of the Northern California Food Network. She has recently co-published a book “Building Lasting Bridges: An Updated Handbook For Intercultural Ministries.” Rev. Choy-Wong has served as a trainer for American Baptist Home Mission Societies, an area minister for Growing Healthy Churches, as admissions director/instructor at Berkeley School of Theology, and as senior pastor at New Life Christian Fellowship in Castro Valley, CA.
